Cancer Taught Me: Tammy’s Story

I live bravely by living my life normally and by sharing special moments with my children—I enjoyed chaperoning my daughter’s field trip at the water park on my birthday. I believe that anything can happen to us and that we cannot live in fear, but instead that we have to enjoy each day. After I researched my cancer, the most difficult thing was to tell my children and my parents. There was so much that I knew I was going to have to do and to accept—and to be strong for.

Deep down, I know that I want to do the best for my children, and that while you smile and want others to see that you are strong, you fear that the cancer will come back, and you wonder if you have done the best for your children. If I put a saying on a T-shirt, it would be ‘Live in the moment.’ I feel blessed for Dr. Berlin, Dr. Spellman for giving me the best possible care, for my family, for my friends and the people I work with who have done so much for me. You all have been incredibly amazing, and I can’t thank you all enough.
