friendship

Stopping by to visit a friend who lost a loved one is a great way to support her.
In recent months, I have been inspired by how people support one another in Delaware, and especially in Sussex County. I am not referring to what people do in crises caused by hurricanes, fires, floods, and other extreme emergencies, but the outreach to those experiencing the inevitable conditions of aging – chronic illnesses, incapacitation, isolation, and death of a spouse, a companion, child,...
There's nothing like spending time with close friends.
Just as November is the month of Thanksgiving, December is the month of giving or gifting. As I reflect on my journey since announcing my breast cancer diagnosis, I have been full of gratitude for many good things in my life including my friends. I am most fortunate to have some of the best friends in all of the universe. I think it is easy to take friendships for granted or to reference them too...
'Tis the season for cheap eats at local restaurants! Enjoy but stay healthy while socializing.
It’s fall in southern Delaware. The onslaught of tourists is a memory and the Eating Season has begun. Local restaurants have kicked off a mind-blogging array of off-season happy hour discounts, meal deals, and delicacy specials. Alcohol holds the top position of the ‘special-for-you’ heap. Happy hour beers are $2 in some places and ‘house’ wines are not much more in others. These prices will last...
Reaching out to a friend
Friendships ebb and flow no matter what age you are or circumstance you’re in—that is just reality. My co-worker and I were discussing all the “best” friends that we’ve had throughout the seasons of our lives. Rarely have the friendships “ended,” rather our lives shifted and distance and time got the better of us. It takes effort and communication (with any relationship), but I think all too often...
susan towers book club
With the arrival of the new comedy “Book Club” (starring baby boomers Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen), I thought it would be timely to write about book club membership. Book clubs that meet in homes often have great food! Once I watched the movie trailer, however, I realized that the groups with which I am familiar in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach are nothing like the one...
back to school sized
I cannot believe it is that time of year again! The summer has gone by way too fast! After the school year ends, we still have plenty to do with travel lacrosse tournaments for my daughters and travel baseball tournaments for my son! We really do not slow down until July and now it is already three weeks from the beginning of school! I feel like I am just settling into the pace of the summer...
Sue blog friends on bridge
Friendship never to be taken for granted A few weeks ago, I spent two days and two nights with four of my ‘girlfriends’ – Emily, Marjorie, Iris, and Wendy – at a cottage near the Indian River Inlet in Delaware’s Seashore State Park. It was as if we were high school friends, only I never was allowed to go away with friends in high school. We are all over 60 (that’s all I am admitting to) and all...
