Flu Shot Shout Out

Cooler weather means more sniffles and the threat of flu.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the influenza vaccine helps prevent millions of Americans from contracting the flu during the winter months. Let’s explore why you and your loved ones should get the flu shot, where to go for it, and how you can stay healthy throughout the dreaded flu season.

Although the vaccine can’t prevent the flu completely, it certainly increases your level of protection. Still not convinced? Did you know you can spread the flu even if you don’t have it? Or that by using your smartphone frequently, your chances of contracting the illness skyrocket?

Where Do I Go?

There are several places you can go for a flu shot, including your primary care doctor, local drugstores, and the Free Flu Clinics offered (during the flu season - September to December) by Beebe Healthcare. Or go to flu.gov and plug in your zip code for the closest place to get vaccinated. As an added benefit, the vaccine is typically free or very affordable.

Healthy Habits to Avoid Illness

  • If you’re sick, stay home
  • Wash, wash, wash your hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Clean the surfaces in your home
